EVIDENCE OF NEED
Members of the university community with a valid Ministry of Transportation Parking Permit or any other valid Provincial, Territorial or State Permit/Licence will be afforded primary consideration for parking. A copy of this evidence is required for our records. Such persons will be issued an accessible hang-tag to be used in conjunction with their transponder.
TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION PARKING
(For injuries, recovery after surgery, pregnancy etc.)
If accommodation parking is needed for 8 months or less, you may choose to have your physician or other licenced health care provider complete the medical section of the McMaster Temporary Accommodation
Parking Application. Renewal past eight months will require an updated copy the McMaster Temporary Accommodation
Parking Application or a valid Ministry of Transportation Parking Permit or any other valid Provincial, Territorial or State Permit/Licence.
Acceptable licenced health providers include physicians, chiropractors, nurse practitioners (extended class), physiotherapists or occupational therapists.
McMaster University Accommodation Parking Permits will not be issued beyond the date specified by your licenced health professional on the McMaster Accessible Parking Application.
Applicants will be asked to provide verification from the Employee Health Services Office that a need for a temporary accommodation exists and the duration the accommodation is required for.
Parking will be provided based upon the availability of the lot and will be charged at the rate of the lot that the applicant parked in before the need for a temporary accommodation arose. For example, if the applicant has a pre-existing transponder for West Campus and the accommodation is provided in a Main Campus lot, then parking under accommodation will be charged at the West Campus rate. If the applicant did not have a pre-existing permit at the time of the application, the rate for parking under accommodation will be determined by the Parking Office.
If you require a use of space in a busy parking lot, where spaces might not be available during peak times, we will install temporary signage in the lot to ensure that a space is available to you while under short
term accommodation. If you find that distance from your work location is further than that allowed as per the recommendations of your health professional, we will work towards assigning a space close to your
work location. Please be advised that we require your health professional or Employee Health Services to specify the walking distance allowed on the short term accommodation application in order for you to utilize this option.
For further information regarding these options, please contact the Parking Office at (905) 525 9140 Ext. 24232.
