How Does Permit Sharing Work?

Permit sharing is a program designed to allow multiple individuals to share the cost and usage of a single parking permit. This system is especially beneficial in hybrid work environments where employees or students do not need to be on campus every day. Instead of each person purchasing a separate permit, they can share one

1. Adding Vehicles

  • To share a permit, the primary account holder (PAH) must add the other user’s vehicle, and may add up to five vehicles to a single permit.
  • Only one vehicle is allowed to use the permit at a time.

2. Usage

  • Both parties agree on a schedule to ensure only one vehicle uses the permit at a time.
  • Each individual can drive their own vehicle to campus on different days without the need to carpool.
  • The PAH is responsible for all citations incurred by any vehicle listed on the permit.

3. Transponders

  • The PAH can purchase additional transponders from the parking office.
  • The PAH distributes these transponders to the other individuals sharing the permit.

4. Responsibility

  • The PAH accepts responsibility for any fines and must coordinate schedules and payments with the other users.
  • The parking staff programs the transponders to prevent multiple vehicles from using the lot simultaneously.
