Accessible Parking

  • This symbol will be on signs and parking spaces designated for accessible parking.
  • A valid MTO Accessible Permit in conjunction with a valid McMaster Accessible Parking permit or daily meter permit must be displayed.
  • McMaster Accessible transponder holders are allowed to park in all gated lot on campus except Lot Q and Underground Wilson Hall at all times.
  • If you require access to these lots please request by sending us an email to parking@mcmaster.ca.
  • The 1 hour limit does not apply for McMaster Accessible parking permit holders when parking in lot J short term metered area.
  • Accessible parking is not permitted in 24 hour reserved parking spaces and in Lot A (which is deemed a private lot) unless by special permission.
  • A hangtag can be provided for accessible spaces outside gated lots marked by the wheelchair symbol.

Evidence of need

Members of the university community with a valid Ministry of Transportation Parking Permit or any other valid Provincial, Territorial or State Permit/Licence will be afforded primary consideration for parking. A copy of this evidence is required for our records. Such persons will be issued an accessible hang-tag to be used in conjunction with their transponder.

Temporary accommodation parking (for injuries, recovery after surgery etc. )

Students

  • If accommodation parking is needed for 8 months or less, you may choose to have your physician or other licenced health care provider complete the medical section of the McMaster University Student Accommodation Parking Application. Renewal will require a valid Ministry of Transportation Parking Permit or any other valid Provincial, Territorial or State Permit/Licence.
  • Acceptable licenced health providers include physicians, chiropractors, nurse practitioners (extended class), physiotherapists or occupational therapists.
  • McMaster University Accommodation Parking Permits will not be issued beyond the date specified by your licenced health professional on the McMaster Accessible Parking Application.

Staff and Faculty

  • For durations of 2 months and less applicants will be asked to complete McMaster University Accommodation Parking Application.
  • If applicant already has submitted paperwork to EHS then this application may not be required. Please email us.
  • For durations longer than 2 months MTO permit will be required.
  • MTO permits are provided on both temporary and ongoing basis.

External

  • For durations of 2 months and less applicants will be required to provide a completed copy of McMaster University Accommodation Parking Application.
  • For durations longer than 2 months MTO permit will be required.
  • MTO permits are provided on both temporary and ongoing basis.

Rates

  • Parking will be provided based upon the availability of the lot and will be charged at the rate of the lot that the applicant parked in before the need for a temporary accommodation arose.
  • For example, if the applicant has a pre-existing transponder for West Campus and the accommodation is provided in a Main Campus lot, then parking under accommodation will be charged at the West Campus rate.
  • If the applicant did not have a pre-existing permit at the time of the application, the rate for parking under accommodation will be determined by the Parking Office.

Visitors to Mac

  • Visitors who require accessible parking may park in any space displaying the accessible parking symbol.
  • A daily McMaster parking permit, charged at $8.00 per visit, must be displayed on the dash, along with a valid Ministry of Transportation Parking Permit or any other valid Provincial, Territorial or State Permit/Licence.
